Cannabis is rarely thought of as an ally to weight loss.
It’s commonly the exact opposite, even associated with weight gain.
However, following recent developments and new studies, there’s more traction behind cannabis than ever! And it’s a certainty that sometime soon, cannabis will be beneficial to healthy weight loss. Still, it may even be able to support the fight against obesity, a significant onset of diabetes.
And with the CDC estimating that the number of Americans diagnosed with diabetes has risen to over 37.3 million, this news is certainly welcome.
Please continue reading below to learn how cannabis has a role in that fight and why experts are looking into its use in the battle against obesity and diabetes.
The evidence supporting cannabis
Meet THC-V, a cannabinoid in marijuana—soon to be a friend to the fight against obesity.
It’s rather challenging to introduce THC-V and layout the difference between it and standard THC– without getting too technical. But here’s what we can say.
Unlike THC alone, it is non-psychoactive and has some interesting effects on CB1 receptors, which are in both the peripheral and central nervous systems. The CB1 receptors regulate neuronal transmission and other vital physiological processes, including pain, inflammation, memory, and feeding behavior.
THC-V’s effect on the CB1 receptors causes decreased food intake and bodyweight reduction.
What does non-psychoactive mean? It essentially means that even with high doses of THC-V, you’ll stay completely sober—with no high feeling, but still all the same benefits to your body.
Due to those effects, many scientific communities were understandably eager to investigate.
Following one of the resulting studies, this was their conclusion:
What to take away from this
Today, many still claim that there is a need for further research on THC-V. However, with conclusions such as the one found in the study above, it’s hard to imagine a future that doesn’t use its benefits to some extent.
We, for instance, remain extremely hopeful that with further research and testing, THC-V will undoubtedly be used to combat obesity. And that this problem in itself may one day be included in the Qualifying Conditions required to attain a Medical Marijuana Card.
Overall, cannabis is once again proving itself capable of changing lives for the better. If, after reviewing the Qualifying conditions, you would like to set up an appointment to receive your Medical Marijuana Certification, click here!
