Legislation Behind Qualifying Conditions
In order for a physical ailment or condition to be qualified for a medical marijuana card, there are some stipulations that have to be approved. The legislation that determines if a condition is qualifiable is determined as such:
- There has to be a determination from the Health Commissioner approving a potential client’s chronic, severe and debilitating pain.
- This includes an investigation that analyses the effects, length and duration of both the pain, side effects and treatment attempts.
- The established debilitating pain must have side effects that are intolerable and have lasted for a minimum of three months.
- This is only possible if, after three months, all other treatments failed or any ulterior therapy interventions would bring harm to the patient.
How to Get a Medical Marijuana Card
In order to qualify, each patient requires these items:
- Documentation of being a valid citizen in their state with a valid identification (which acts as a proof of residency)
- A written certificate from a healthcare practitioner regarding a patient’s need for the card
- A submitted medical marijuana card application
- Proof of registration and two caregivers that are registered with the DOH
- Each patient upon acceptance must only purchase the product using their medical marijuana card at an accepted source.
