Florida State Regulations and Rules

With the increased studies of marijuana use as a medical treatment, it has been demonstrated that marijuana can have powerful and useful qualities in treating users with various ailments. The state of Florida has outlined a set of guidelines to ensure the safest and most effective use of marijuana as medicine.

Protecting Medical Professionals.

We must protect physicians from any kind of penalty of law for either giving advice about the use of marijuana (to patients that qualify) and from prescribing a patient a marijuana based treatment. Doctors who are licensed in the state of Florida need both the authority and freedom to give patients all options for treatment. Furthermore, doctors need not fear legal ramifications from giving and/or prescribing treatments that involve marijuana.

Setting Boundaries for Marijuana use.

Because marijuana may have intoxicating effects, patients that use marijuana need to be aware of those effects so that they may not be a risk to themselves and others. Much like alcohol, one should not be allowed to drive a car, heavy machinery or any kind of transportation while using marijuana. Furthermore, the consumption of marijuana should not be consumed at one’s workplace, a school, or given to minors unless explicitly authorized by a parent or adult caregiver.

Outlining Qualifying Conditions.

Marijuana should not be given to just anyone. This list does not replace a visit to a licensed healthcare professional, but it is here to give you an idea of what qualifies as a condition that would make one eligible for marijuana treatment.

HIV/AIDS, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), cancer related pain, chronic pain, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis (MS), inflammatory bowel disease (IBS), Parkinson’s disease, post-traumatic-stress disorder (PTSD), insomnia, depression and anorexia nervosa.

Again, this does not replace a proper doctor’s visit. Please visit your doctor to see if marijuana treatment is best for you and what dosage will be most effective for you.

Regulating Medical Marijuana

According to Florida state law, a licensed physician is allowed to issue a certification for marijuana supply that exceeds 70 days. Treat marijuana as you would any other prescription drug, with safety and mindful consumption. If you have a medical marijuana card as a resident of the state of Florida, you may only use it within state boundaries. Traveling across state lines to purchase marijuana is not legal.
