Once you have your card, you can work with a dispensary to get the medicine you need. Unlike in other states, New York allows you to make your initial appointment with the dispensary online, adding a bit of convenience to the process. Qualifying for a Medical Marijuana Card in New York

Before you can get a medical marijuana card, it is essential that you meet all of the following qualifying conditions:

  • Be at least 18 years old or a minor with an adult caregiver.
  • Be a legal resident of New York.
  • You have been diagnosed with a qualifying condition.
  • A certified practitioner can guarantee that you are being treated for a qualifying condition.

Qualifying Conditions

Not every medical condition qualifies a patient for the use of medical marijuana. Here are some of the common medical conditions that are eligible for medical marijuana use:

  • Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).
  • Chronic pain.
  • Multiple sclerosis (MS).
  • Inflammatory bowel disease (IBS)
  • Huntington’s disease.
  • Parkinson’s disease.
  • Post-traumatic-stress disorder (PTSD).

Completing the Online Application

If you meet the qualifying conditions, you can then fill out the online application. To complete the application, you need to following information:

  • Practitioner certification form.
  • Any applicable fees.
  • Your New York state driver’s license or non-driver ID card number.
  • Information about your certified caregiver.
  • Caregiver card fee.

 

Once You have Your Medical Marijuana Card

Once you have your medical marijuana card from the state, you can make an appointment with a dispensary. Be sure to bring your medical marijuana ID card as well as a state-issued ID card with you to this visit. During your visit, you will work with a patient care representative to complete your intake form. Once the intake is complete, you can receive up to a 30-day supply of medical marijuana. Please be aware that due to federal banking regulations, dispensaries cannot accept credit cards for medical marijuana payments. Please bring cash or a debit card to make your payment.
