The Incredible Facts About Marijuana as a Workout Stimulant
We all know how good it feels to have a great workout.
But let’s be honest; sometimes, finding the motivation to get started can be a struggle.
If you can’t seem to shake off workout apathy, you might be surprised to learn that marijuana could be the answer to getting you moving.
To find out how people combine marijuana and exercise and why marijuana can be an excellent workout stimulant, read on!
The Advantages of Cannabis Use Before Working Out
Contrary to popular belief, there’s growing evidence that users of marijuana enjoy a beneficial connection with exercise. In fact, a survey of 605 cannabis users found that as many as 81.7% of participants endorsed consuming cannabis while working out.
Those who worked out with marijuana showed preferences in consumption methods as well: cannabis flowers and concentrates were more popular than edibles.
Additionally, people who use cannabis for up to four hours before exercising tend to exercise longer. The average amount of aerobic exercise they performed per week was 159.7 minutes, compared to 103.5 minutes for non-consumers.
Furthermore, 40% of cannabis consumers completed 150 minutes of aerobic exercise per week, compared to 28.7% of non-consumers.
According to survey respondents, the main reasons for using cannabis before physical activity were the following:
- Helping focus/concentration (66%)
- Enjoying the exercise experience (65%)
- Enhancing the mind-body-spirit connection (65%)
The Benefits of Marijuana After A Workout
Among the positive effects of marijuana on your workout are the following:
Feeling relaxed
Smoking cannabis may reduce your anxiety after a workout while making you feel relaxed.
Providing pain relief
The cannabinoids in THC have been shown to help reduce inflammation, one of the most common causes of pain. After a workout, smoking marijuana can help to reduce inflammation in sore muscles.
Chronic Cannabis Consumption and Physical Activity
A study examined the relationship between chronic cannabis consumption and physical activity in healthy adults.
Marijuana consumption was assessed to determine the following:
- if it adversely affects the physiological function or athletic performance
- if it improves performance
- or has no effect at all.
They concluded, however, that chronic cannabis consumption did not significantly affect athletic performance. But there is a possibility that psychotropic enhancement or pain reduction could be useful in certain sports.
Despite federal restrictions, these survey results suggest cannabis and exercise can be a powerful combination for those struggling to motivate themselves to exercise. Moreover, this evidence proves why marijuana as a workout stimulant is a safe and effective choice.
However, everyone’s body is different, and what works for one person may not work for another.
That’s why you should always consult a medical professional before incorporating any new substance into your exercise program.
